For past couple of weeks, every two minutes I freeze in place for 60 seconds or so, then in 5 seconds everything goes super fast motion to catch up, then ok for next two minutes until freeze again. I have reloaded the oberin client. Don't seem to have connection problems otherwise--streaming video seems to work fine on other programs.
Any ideas? |

| How good is your video card? It may be that your computer is trying to do too much at the same time, if you have a large number of applications running, quit a few, and try again. |

The server doesn't have a dedicated line, and can get quite laggy at times. What you're experiencing happens when the connection between your client and the server hangs for a while, and all the messages queue up. When the congestion ends you get all the queue at once, which gives that effect of "everything stuck then fast forwarding".

I've been experiencing occasional freeze for a week now. And I believe I am not the only one.
So there's a great chance it is a matter of congestion to the server rather than a local issue. |

| Run a traceroute to the server, see where the issue is. |

What is your OS version?
I have been online several hours a day, but there have only been two occasions in the past few weeks where I have experienced intermittent freezes. So, let's look at a few other things before chalking it up to the server. |

| I play an unmentionable number of hours and have not been having freezing problems, I think the server might be ok. |

| I have noticed a few freezes throughout oberin, but they never lasted long and were USUALLY(i repeat, usually) ok to players. In other words, these have just been the normal freezes that always happen every so often in obie. |

| I didn't say it was the server btw, I said it could have something to do with the route to the server from wherever Whisp is playing from, I had the problem a good few years ago and I ran a few traceroutes and it turned out that for some reason my packets were getting held up somewhere on the other side of the atlantic, and then after a little while it decided to just route a different way and it was fine again. |

I was beaten to posting by Isen! I recall ones when I had just started playing oberin and no internet connections from my ISP past Georgia worked (found this out with some trace routing) it made me very cross!
What we all need to keep in mind is that the data is actually physically traveling across the globe. If I'm not entirely mistaken, there are only two lines across the atlantic (where all data go) and none across the pacific.
*edit*
my mistake on the pacific:
