The idea of changed creature levels (let's call it creature level balancing, shall we?) was brought up ages ago and used to be a good one. Finally snakes are not lvl 8 etc.

But wait a second. This change was made so players can level faster and higher (higher level creatures, wider range for quick leveling I guess)? Weren't players OP already? How does it help with balancing?

In other words are you even thinking about addressing issues which are made even worse by this change?

Are you thinking about regular character wipes in future?

Or after next 10 years (hypothetically if the game survives that long) there will be players (hardcore nerds) on class 18 soloing everything while new players will have to sadly look at them from the perspective of a 15 years long leveling gap?

Do you have some remedy for this? Other then regular wipes or some rational hard caps for levels (like basically all MMOs I ever tried). Other then the thought that no one sane will actually play for 15 years or get that high (although we already have class 15 people even now)? Or is this what is Oberin about? Clicking for 15 years to be the strongest nerd on the server?

Just my five cents. But it's hard to find any remedy when clerics with HUUUGE mana pools can instant heal with 6 mana spell and players are getting more and more levels (more HPs/damage). The only way to fix that are deadly creatures whom can 2 hit kill high level players. Which means a content which will never be seen by new players (or maybe in few years?)

Good luck devs to fight with that.

/me ends whining

The level update is meant to help everyone. What does it matter if a rare player is an astounding level that newbies can't hope to reach? Oberin's built with a set timeline. It makes sense to let players keep leveling, as they age with the game.

I play a druid. I started way back when with 1 magery, 1 alchemy, and 3 taming. It's a good thing I didn't hear about druids being overpowered until later, because I wouldn't have understood. I was pathetic. I can only thank my survival to my enjoyment of crafting (which meant I didn't mind chopping logs while waiting for others to come on to help me hunt), and due to some fantastic clerics who kept my pets alive long enough for me to level.

I still am pathetic, against some creatures that others my class level handle easily. (Anything on the water, for example.) I only started playing an alt of another class recently, so I don't know how the # of monsters I can't handle well compares to the # of monsters other classes can't handle well. I do know that my lvl 4 fighter can take on creatures I as a druid couldn't take on until lvl 6.

So. I'm looking forward to discovering how pets function at the higher levels, myself.

Oh, this is nice. Weirdly distributed creature levels was one of the things I didn't like about Oberin, and it sounds like that has in large part been fixed.

This is, like, the second incentive to log in and play again. It still won't happen before my exam on the 18th though.
