So, I was doing a bit of number crunching last night and earlier today in regards to lockpicking and removing traps. Here's what I foundÖ

To get from level 9 to level 10 (or where you go from getting most chests to almost every chest), you need a certain number of success (which we can all figure out using simple math or by googling, though I don't believe I'm allowed to say exactly how much here).

In the Mirith Sewers, it is possible to get 9 success every 20 minutes. That means in 1 hour, you are able to get 27 success. Following that train of thought, you divide the number of success required to get from 9 to 10 by the number of success it is possible to get per hour (27) to get a number roughly equal to 950. That means it takes 950 hours of doing nothing but lockpicking and removing traps in Mirith Sewers to get from level 9 to level 10 in those skills.

Alternatively, it would take someone 39 1/2 days of straight lockpicking and removing traps to level that skill.

I understand that this is technically part of the game (not the number crunching, the actual leveling piece), but does anybody see something wrong with that, and if so, is this something that should be fixed?

I thought they only gave you Lockpicking 10 when you mail them your clicking finger. (which has fallen off)

But I jest, as this forum needs a jester. It seems like, as in the other thread the idea came up that rogue is probably one of the (if not the) most challenging class to play, that getting *certain* chests/locks could grant more successes? If not, the solitary confinement is really the only option...unless you're portalling back and forth between the three sewers to get more chests, which is still a little iffy, given the amount of rogues to chests.

Granted, I haven't rogued in a good while, (and I miss it), but is there/could there be something like practice locks for higher levels? If memory serves RT can be levelled in this way with tinker-built traps, yes?

Give the Commander some support, since this is in the support thread, I say.

Leave it to you to think wading through the king's excrement is the best way to do something. No wonder you are commander of the vanguard.

Mirith sewers is the best places for young rogues to pick locks. Experienced rogues can find more locks elsewhere, and faster. If you're going into solitary confinement, it might as well be far away.

Lockpicking through tinkering is a reward for crafting, just like removing traps. Bad idea.

Don't let it fool you. Special actually levels slower than lockpicking. Between the last 2 blue moons, special increased a mere 6%, and lockpicking 25%, both the same level.

Tell me more. Is this a commonly held belief?

(and hey, kudos to you for keeping the anti-Mirith sentiment, even in the support thread. I used to do that )

At least you're from a time when the anti-Mirith sentiment was justified. Wink

Personally I would take the ID Draco chamber over the Mirith sewer any day. You can get a lot more locks in a lot less time, and can take a couple of friends with you for entertainment. Wink Plus, the DT's are a nice bonus.

I know this doesn't get your RT up, but as it was mentioned before, there's a way to accommodate for that, if you so choose.
