Year 436 Sleeping Moon Day 46
Dear Diary,
It has been quite sometime since I have ventured out of my house in Andris. The trite necessities of life have kept me from my vocation of adventuring. Really, I'm not sure I'm even allowed to call myself an "adventurer" given how seldom I leave my home, let alone the city anymore. I think the last time I did anything worth noting was my first attendance of the legendary Blue Moon festival. I had never attended the celebration and was very excited to see so many adventurers, many whom I had never seen or met in my life, gathered in one place. I couldn't stay for long though so I probably missed on many exciting events, though I did manage to auction of my stave of speed.
Anyhow, I have been pretty much hibernating since then. I did, however, get a chance to wander outside of the city a little bit today to cut wood and mine ferrite. I think this might be my first long harvesting excursion since moving to Andris. It is quite a bit more dangerous than harvesting Lerrilin or Mirith! The rocks south of the city in particular are right near snake territory so I had to be very wary when mining. Indeed, today I was not only attacked by snakes but by a brigand as well! He snuck up from me from behind and I was so focused on mining that I didn't notice him till he had sliced me with his sword once. In my panic, I ran towards the city's entrance but managed to go the wrong way and ended running along the wall towards the back entrance instead. So while I managed to outrun the brigand, before I could collect my wits, I was being chased by an army of snakes. I'm just lucky I didn't run into a gaper. I'm sure I would have died then. So In any case, my little harvesting excursion turned into more of an adventure than I thought! I must try to be more aware of my surrounding while I mine. If that brigand hadn't caught me unawares, I may have had another preserved brigand head to decorate my bank storage space. |

Year 436 Sleeping Moon Day 46
Dear Diary,
Today was quite a day! I had not gone out on a true adventure in quite sometime and decided it was time to reacquaint myself with wizardry in general but testing my rusty skills In the forests of Andris. Luckily, I didn't have to do it alone. At the bank, I met up with Krem (fighter, I think?) and Rosina (cleric) who invited me hunt undead with them at the cemetery. I enthusiastically told them I would meet them there after I had gotten rid of some stuff in the inventory (I really need to some extra storage space!). By the time I was finished, I met up with the druid Fixx who was also planning to join the party at the cemetery.
By the time we got there, Krem and Rosina had already killed off many skeletons and zombies. This being the cemetery though, those creatures were not in short supply. I tried to contribute but I mostly just threw lightning bolts at skeletons and missed. I've also gotten a little more foolhardy than before, probably because I've spent so much time in the comforts of the city. I even found myself chasing a bone mage southward into the forest to "help" Rosina. She, of course, didnít need any help fighting It off and was actually luring It south so It wouldn't harm the rest of us! It took me a few missed attempts at draining the bone mage's mana before I realized I wasn't helping her at all, and if anything, was probably holding her back from casting some kind of lethal-to-undead white magic to take out the bone mage. I quickly scampered away and regrouped with Krem anf Fixx, embarrassed by my lack of strategic know-how. We want on like this, hanging out at the cemetery, killing the undead lured by Krem, and then repeating. At one point, Fixx's pet Harpie was killed so he brought in a pet pixie!! What fun to have a such an adorable sidekick to assist too. And not foul-mouthed like the ones from the wild. In fact, we were attacked by a gang of wild foul-mouthed pixie thugs while at the cemetery and I greatly enjoyed Bloyden (Fixx's pixie) fight them off in silence. Truly a well-tamed pixie! Though
I should note that it rebelled once during the hunt, and before it was re-tamed, it let us know it he hadn't forgot his roots as a potty-mouthed pixie of the forest. In any case, after killing wave after wave of undead, we had finally exhausted the cemetery. The place was completely empty! At least for a few minutes anyway. I had a nice time walking the grounds and the mausoleums. It is quite a beautiful and tranquil place when not festering with undead!
Anyway, we decided to next hunt giants north-west of the city (Fixx brought along his much sturdier Lava spider). By this time, I was feeling my recurring stomach cramps again, but I decided this opportunity was too good to pass up. This area is, of course, territory not just of giants, but bracken and snakes as well. So we had quite a nice time, fighting these creatures and letting them zap me to train my resistance to magic. The real fun started though, when we found the giants. I am amazing by the poise and skill of my hunting party. If I was by myself and stumbled upon three or four giants, I would have panicked myself into a hive of ants and died. But with four others doing most of the work, I was able to calmly (relatively anyway) support by casting poison and paralyze (even though, I missed most of the time). I doubt I was much help as my rusty skills and cramps prevented me from pulling anything off too crucial, but the other three were strong enough on their own that they didn't really need any wizard's help. At one point, I was being chased by a giant on the beach while the other three were busy with other giants, and stumbled onto a bracken on the beach that zapped me. After that zap though, I felt my a bit stronger and confident in resisting magical attacks. My time here in Andris has done wonders for me in my training as a wizard!
Anyway, after we had had our fill, we went back to the city, shared our loot, and disbanded. Not only was it a fun day, it was quite a profitable one too. If only I had space to store all this loot! |

Dear Diary,
Today I spent the day at the bank rather than off fighting in the forest. I saw a few adventurers here and there but exchanged only pleasantries as I was feeling a bit feverish. I spent most of my time enchanting crystals and creating etherite but also spent some time cooking dried trout, borrowing the fireplace of the restaurant. Spending so much time near the fireplace has got me exhausted! I wonder how professional cooks and blacksmiths deal with the heat? Anyhow, hopefully when I'm feeling better, I'll go on a real adventure. That's it for now, diary, goodnight! |

Year 437 Waking Mon Day 139
Dear Diary,
Today I decided to take a break from menial talks and go for a true adventure! I went to the bank to ponder which direction I would go and must have dozed off a bit. When I woke up, I found some pumpkin pie and Hayate-brand sake on the steps. Puzzled, I approached the meal but there seemed to be no one in sight. It seemed a shame to let the appetizing desert get cold and since the town looked pretty empty, I decided that it must have been left for me by the gods of Oberin in gratitude of my rekindled spirit of adventuring. Convenient and narcissistic thinking, I know, but the pie looked too good to pass up! And who knows? Perhaps there is a holiday of some sort celebrated by the gods for the purpose of giving thanks?
Anyhow, I ate the pie from the gods, and it was, as expected, delicious. Now onto the sake. For some reason, perhaps because it was labeled "Hayate's sake," I got the notion that this might not be just some regular drink, but also a special potion that could make me as strong as Hayate. And so I chugged it as if it were a potion. Of course, it didn't make me stronger. Rather, it make me feel woozy and lightheaded and talkative. Frankly, my memory of the rest of the day is a little weak. I think, having consumed the drink by myself, I started bothering the first person I saw, Nusbalm (although I sometimes accidently called him Neblin). I started whining about how I didn't know what to do with myself as I was drunk. He told me to get a cleric to take me home, but I refused I was supposed to go adventuring! Besides, no one was around. Instead, I started nagging him for career advice. What should a wizard of my level be doing? Which parts of Oberin should I be exploring? Probably sensing that I was in no condition to venture outside, Nusbalm advised me to stay at the bank and perhaps wait for fellow adventurers to come along. I replied with a rude "baaaaaaaaa, humbug," declared myself the wind and whisked myself away to the western gate. I hope he'll still trade ash for fangs with me after that embarrassing performance.
Anyhow, my "adventure" out in the forest consisting of chasing a poison beat with bolts only to be distracted by a bracken that was bolting me. And as I was busy fighting that bracken, the poison beast recovered and started chasing me! I then chased it and killed it before going back to finish of the bracken. My whole time in the forest was something like this, a drunken game of tag with monsters. I moved on northward to combat bracken but found only ants instead (not a lot of chasing here since they with one bolt!). The bracken grove was eerily empty today but a few snakes did manage to find me and I resumed my game of tag with the forest. Unfortunately, the booze combined with all that running had me dehydrated and I had a little trouble pulling off my spells. So I had to actually outrun the snakes to safety, not an easy feat! Drinking and hunting is dangerous!
And for whatever reason, without noticing it before, I found myself holding a mug of buckeye beer. Where did this come from? Another gift from the gods? I knew I shouldn't after the difficulties I'd already been having. But who was I to deny a gift from the gods? So I, perhaps unwisely, chugged another mug of booze. "Go BuckEyes!" I yelled, as if possessed (maybe I was), and charged into the bracken grove into a drunken stupor. I'm surprised I didn't die today given my reckless behavior. After fighting off a tree sans robe of resistance (too drunk to care about the extra pain) I started playing tag again with the snakes. At one point, I had three snakes chasing after me while I gleefully pranced around, waiting for my mana to fill up. I'm surprised my stomach didn't cramp up (It usually does after a while even when Iím sober) at that point, but the gods were perhaps entertained by my antics and spared me. Or maybe all the potions I had to drink to survive the fight with the bracken sans robe of resistance helped me stay hydrated? In any case, by the time I was done playing tag I had contributed considerably to my collection of snake skins and eggs. And for that, I give thanks. Thanks to the gods, and thanks to the bounty of Oberin! And now I am too sleepy to write another word. Good night, diary! |

Year 437 Growing Moon Day 165
Dear Diary,
Today I decided to explore the sewers of Andris. Years ago I had a near-death experience in the Mirith sewers when I was swarmed by rats. I was completely tapped out of health and invisibility potions but survived by bumping into the legendary Hayate, who, for some gloriously miraculous reason, was hanging out in the sewers. Anyhow, that traumatic and shameful experienced of almost being killed by rats has led me to avoid the sewers for the most part. Still, it was the one part of this city that I have now lived in for so long that I hadn't explored yet. I happy to report that the sewers are much the same as those in Mirith: many rats, many snails and a sprinkling of snakes. The most dangerous things that lie in those chests are probably those booby-trapped chests, none of which contained anything too valuable. I regrettably could not open one particular chest. No doubt that particular chest held something much more valuable. How I wish I had a rogue's talent for lockpicking! Anyhow, I explored the entire area though it's possible I missed a few rooms as I did not find a ladder going down another level nor a second exit leading to the surface. Perhaps the Andris sewers are not as expansive as the Mirith Sewers? Well, both places stink just as bad so I doubt I will make any more ventures down there (though that last unopened chest is quite tempting). Next time I will go hunting in the great outdoors, where I can breathe fresh air and smell the musk of the forest! |

Year 437 Bleeding Moon Day 85
Dear Diary,
Today I happened to be run into Rosina and Gawr at the bank. They were waiting for their fellow guild mates to show up so they could go on a group hunt. I asked if I could tag along and they said yes! When the rest of the party (Angelica, Wupps and Crom) arrived there was all sorts of merriment and cheer. They seemed to be very happy to see each other, especially Angelica who had apparently taken ill recently. In any case, after toasting to our health with some Andris champagne there was what looked like a formal meeting among the rebels where Crom (apparently the leader of the group) stood out in front while the rest of us faced him. The actually discussion though was very informal and was just deciding where to go to hunt. We ended up choosing the cemetery and off we went!
I donít know if it was the champagne or my perennial stomach sickness, but I was feeling all out of sorts before we even started our hunt. Of course, with the elite Rebels team, it didn't really matter as they were able to clear out the place very quickly and easily. I did manage to get a few bolts in but mostly the undead were destroyed before I got the chance!
The next destination was the sea to go sea serpent hunting! This was quite an exciting notion for me as I have always thought sea serpents hunted us, not the other way around. But I suppose for the very strong, everything can be considered prey. We set out from the beach and traveled northward on our rafts. I'm sure I've never been so far from the shore! The ocean is so vast! It was quite disorienting and terrifying experience. We finally found a sea serpent and I was so terrified I I spent the whole battle running In circles without casting a single paralysis spell.
Shortly afterwards, we ran into an armada of privateers! I had never seen this particular brand of thugs and was both excited and terrified. By this time, I was completely sick and could barely move so I merely watched as the stubborn fools led themselves, wave after wave, to slaughter by the hands of the rebels. We also destroyed their shelter located on a small desert island that was there base. Not before looting the place though. They had quite the collection of tokens and other prizes. Even though I was completely useless in the fight, I managed to end up with a wizard token and a short bow of power. It was a bittersweet moment for me. The first time I had come across the coveted class token, a symbol, at least to me, of great adventure and utility, and I was completely useless in the battle that got me it! By I am grateful for the token and grateful for the adventure. The Rebels are truly generous and patient folk. They were even kind enough to escort me back to Andris after I told them I couldn't possibly continue in my state of physical weakness.
So all in all, I had a very successful expedition! Here's to many more years of adventure in Oberin! |

Year 437 Red Moon Day 22
Dear Diary,
Today I spent much of the day cooking some of the trout and raw steak I've been hoarding in my bank storage space. The bank uses some pretty high-level magic to keep it fresh, but they've been complaining about the smell recently and aren't too eager having to stock raw food (especially the fish) for me. So I borrowed the local restaurants fireplace and decided to spend the day cooking. I had finished with the trout and had started with the meat when a man in a gray robe by the name of Nial approached me. He was bleeding and it was apparent that he had just died.
I asked him what his situation was and he told me he had been killed by a bracken in a mysterious and fatal moment of paralysis. I donned my red robe of protection and told him I would take care of it. It was the first time helping out someone retrieve his body so it was quite an exciting mission! Of course, the process itself was quite trivial. I had thought to kill the bracken first having Nial retrieve his things, but he just went straight in, put on his armor, and started hacking away, while the bracken had his attention on me. Between the two of us, the tree died pretty quickly.
Since we were out in the forest anyway, we decided we might as well make this into a hunting date. So we scoured along the coast, killing bracken and snakes wherever we found them. Eventually, we cleared the area of these two menaces and stopped to chat with the man who is always looking for yellow roses (who's name I've forgotten). I thought his endeavor to do right by his wife by getting her these extremely rare flowers was quite romantic but Nial didn't think too highly of him (apparently the man habitually cheats on his wife, and this isn't the first time he's asked for yellow flowers). Anyhow, we decided to set our sights next to giant territory. Nial lured one of them to us and we battled him. However, due to their toughness and strength, most of the battle consisted of it chasing us around. I stupidly let myself be chased into giant territory and somehow got two more giants on my tail. We had to escape into the water with our rafts and clear our heads a little bit. Finally, we managed isolate one of the giants and lure him deeper into the forest and fight him two on one. Even then, we struggled mightily. I think I am mostly to blame since I wasn't using very keen strategy, alternating between paralysis spells and poisons spells. The problem with that strategy was that, at my level, the paralysis spell did not last very long (not to mention it eats up a lot of mana) and it didn't give enough of an a window for Nial to club the giant. We tried again with the next giant, this time with me just casting the poison spell, and that worked much better. I must remember to exclusively use poison on these creatures, even if it means more running around during battle.
Anyhow, after we killed the second giant, we decided we would take out one more bracken before returning to the city. We found one but I found myself overwhelmed as I received two hits of lightning bolt and was swarmed by snakes. Near death and poisoned, I ran into the safety of the water and drank potions. How ironic if, in this expedition which started out as a simple rescue mission, I found myself dead right before retiring back to the city! Fortunately, that didn't happen and were able to kill the last tree along with those pesky snakes.
Nial, being the generous man he is, let me keep all the loot we collected, and gave me a yellow robe of resistance in thanks for assisting get his stuff back. So all in all, quite a successful expedition!
After Nial retired, I spent some more time cooking but soon got bored and didn't quite finish cooking all of my raw steak. Instead, I decided to chop some trees to collect logs. Eventually, I became exhausted and retired as well. |

Year 437 Red Moon Day 105
Dear Diary,
I find myself losing stamina with each passing week. I started the day expecting to take a walk In the forests of Andris after spending some time mining for ferrite. However, I felt exhausted and sick after my mining expedition and couldn't muster up the energy to for a hunt so I retired back to my home. To be sure, mining in Andris is a much more exhausting endeavor than in Lerillin and Mirith, as I was chased away from the rocks by snakes, giants, and poison elementals at various points. The bottle of Andris Champagne that I chugged (that I happened to find in the forest and didn't want to waste; I'm not an alcoholic!) before I started mining in earnest probably didn't help either. Still, I used to be able to handle alcohol and running away without breaking a sweat. Sadly, my body is just not what it used to be. |

Year 437 Red Moon Day 188
Dear Diary,
Today I decided not to do any harvesting. I'm quite well off anyway and when I start the day with that kind of activity, I become too exhausted to do anything else later. I found a fellow adventurer at the blacksmith by the name of Budic and invited him to hunt with me. I had hunted on several occasions in the forests west of the city but not so much east of the city so I thought I proposed we explore that area. Thus, the two of us, and Budic's lion, Sal, walked deep into the forests of Andris island. I tell you, Diary, the forest of the city is much less forgiving than the forest west of the city. We were assaulted by wave after wave of creatures, including giant ants, poison beats, sludge beasts, poison elementals, hell hounds, giant spiders, harpies, giant scorpions, and giants. Luckily, we didn't run into any gapers. The sheer diversity and volume of hostile creatures in his part of the forest makes for quite an unpredictable hunt. I never knew what to expect. Indeed, often times, as soon as we dispatched one group of animals, another group would descend on us before we could even finish looting the corpses of the monsters we had just slain. And of course, being a wizard, I did quite a bit of running away from monsters, only to run into a different group and ended up inadvertently increasing the number of creatures attacking us. That happened quite often. The most dangerous creature we encountered were the giants, and we saw quite a few. Indeed, I'm surprised with the relative ease we dispatched these monsters, especially since there were other creatures chasing us as we fought them. My strategy of sticking to poisoning and running worked rather well. The giants focused on me as I ran, giving Sal and Budic an opportunity to do damage, and of course, the poison helped too, I hope anyway. It was quite the fast-paced hunt and I soon found my stomach pains were returning in full force. I told Budic I had to leave before I blacked out and after handing him his fair share of the loot, I ran as fast as I could back to the comfort of my home in Andris, and proceeded to vomit up a storm. Ugh. I may not be long for this world, I'm afraid. But for as long as I live, I shall keep recording my adventures. Until next time, Diary! |

Year 437 Harvest Moon Day 20
Dear Diary,
Happy early Harvest Moon, Diary! Today is a very special day, for today is the first day in quite some time that I am not writing this in the city of Andris. That's right! I have left the city I have called home for many moons. It is a city that can only be described a wizard's haven, and strolling the bracken grove and has improved my resistance to magic quite a bit. My resistance is not as good compared to other wizards and clerics and the like, but it is at least respectable and comparable to fighters and rangers and such. I had planned to stay in Andris a bit longer and improve my magic resistance even more but an event convinced me to go back to my hometown of Lerillin. That event? None other than the Bracken festival hosted on the Rebel's island! I had not known of this event until today when a fellow adventurer told me about it while I was making boards at the bank. I entertained the thought of visiting but deep down I knew my stamina would be spent after making these boards and it was unlikely that I would be able to make the trek all the way to the Andris bridge, much less the Rebel Isle. But after I was done woodcrafting and getting ready for bed, I ran into some Rebels. They gave me a pure orange crystal so I could skip much of the trouble of walking all the way from Andris to Lerillin. Now I had no excuse! It would be rude to not go! But I was still feeling very tired from my woodcrafting so I decided to take a nap before leaving.
After I napped, I felt much more rejuvenated. I set out for the Andris portal, and after taking one brief last look at this southern land that has made me so much stronger, I dropped the crystal and was in Lerillin. A wave of nostalgia hit me as I experienced the familiar sight of the trees and sounds of the birds. I will miss Andris, but I know, gods willing, I will go back. The familiar surroundings made me feel good about coming back. I think I will spend the harvest moon in town.
But for now, I hastened to the Rebels' guild hall. I didn't bother going to town for fear that nostalgia would make it impossible for me to leave once I arrived. Instead, I walked southwards towards the three-paths guild hall and rafted northward towards rebel isle. The island is much larger than I expected, but it is also very barren. There is nothing but sand and palm trees here. I traveled northward and found the guildhall. It was impressively large, and the Rebels had decorated the entrance quite nicely, with red flags marking an entryway and a fire marking the entrance. What was sorely missing though was other people! It seemed I was the only one present! Where was everyone else? Did I miss it? Or perhaps it had not started yet! Did I arrive during a break from the heavy partying before and after? I wasn't sure. But I didn't have much time to contemplate as my stomach pains returned quite suddenly and I was immobilized. I think I will spend the night here, Diary. As a heavy sleeper, I expect to miss the entire festival even as It goes on right under my nose. Ha! All the trouble of leaving Andris for nothing! Still, I'm glad I'm back. I'm eager to show off how strong I've become to the beasties of Lerillin. Maybe I'll even kill my nemesis, the gaper. Then again, probably not. We shall see. Until then, diary! |

Year 437 Harvest Moon Day 117
Dear Diary,
As expected I completely slept through Bracken Fest (assuming it wasn't already over when I arrived) and woke up to a peaceful breeze on the beach near an empty Rebel guild hall. After getting the sand out of my boots, I made my way back to Lerillin. To my surprise, It is quite the bustling town now! I expected Lerilin to be in the same shape as I had left it, a ghost town, but instead the town is now bustling with adventurers congregating at the bank. Ironically, this little fishing village seems to be more active than the great city of Andris. Most of the faces at the bank were unfamiliar to me but I did meet up with Borti II who I had not seen since forever. According to him, there is yet another festival, this time held at the red Battalion guild hall, which is apparently located somewhere near the Lerilin bridge. I told him I would try to make it knowing full well that I may not be able to given my decreased stamina of late. I then decided I would spend the time before the festival work on my blacksmithing. An adventurer once told me that the harvest moon makes us all better and more fast to learn at our crafts so I dare not pass up the opportunity. Of course, spending all that time next to a furnace wore me out pretty quickly and I was exhausted before I made two batches of maces. I decided I would rest for the day and then make my way to Red Battalion Guild Hall for the party.
After feeling rejuvenated after my nap, I headed out to the party and discovered much merriment going on. People were enjoying the sheep milk and banana pie the hosts had set up for us. There was a herd of sheep grazing nearby. Perhaps the Red Battalion Guild own the herd and uses it as their source of Milk? In any case, pretty soon all of us were told to hide, for this wasn't just any festival. It was also a surprise party for Fuoco who had recently taken ill. It was quite a hoot seeing everyone come out of hiding and shout "Surprise!" and "Get well soon!" as she and her entourage arrived. I hope it was a pleasant surprise for her as well.
Next up, the party! Cookies and drinks were passed along I stuffed myself with such delicacies as Lerillin crËme ale and mandrake cookies. As someone who eats only trout and steak this was a rare treat. The first game of the event also took place and true story behind all those sheep was revealed. Apparently, they were pet sheep brought by the guests, and they were mere toys for this game. The game, if I recall correctly, was called "sheep kill" consisted of having your pet sheep attack a bracken and see whose dies first. It's quite a cruel game and since I had no pet sheep, I did not participate. Instead, I chatted with old acquaintances, Cassandra and Kwes, who insisted that I visit Aborek with them again, free of charge. It was a lovely offer, but I told them my health would no longer allow me to go on long adventures down into the deepest dungeons. I also tried to give my regards to the honorary guest, Fuoco, but it was difficult to get in a word as she was the center of attention. Indeed, they had her surrounded by candles as everyone recited poems to her about what a lovely person she is. How embarrassing! But also, how sweet! She is truly blessed to have so many caring friends, we are blessed to have her around.
Next up was the dancing completion, which seemed to be the main event. The wizards were asked to create a dance floor with fire-fields, but without any direction as to where we were to cast our spell, we all cast them everywhere, completely encompassing the part of the road that was supposed to be the "dance floor." Watching the flames being summoned over and over as the sky darkened was one of the most beautiful and romantic images of Oberin I've witnessed. I'm glad I got to be a part of that. After that magnificent sideshow, we hosts were able to create a more stable boundary using candles, and thus the dancing competition began! The dancing was very fun to watch, and while it was obvious to everyone that these adventurers were not professionals, everyone did their best to put on a good show and succeeded to a great degree. My favorite was a tour-de-force solo routine from a man named Davy who performed a partner dance by himself and managed to encapsulate a grief and humor at once in his short routine. The judges deliberated for quite a while and I didn't managed to catch who was declared the winner as I came down with exhaustion yet again, and had to step out to rest behind the guild hall. It's a shame as I did not get to say farewell and did not get to participate in the games following the dancing. Still, it was a very fun night. I will never forget the merriment and happy faces gleaming in the fire light. |

Year 437 Harvest Moon Day 187
Dear Diary,
As expected, all the festivities had finished by the time I woke up. The entire area was clear of any trash or signs of human activity. All that was left was some rotting sheep milk that I had forgotten to drink before falling asleep. After throwing them out, I headed back to Lerillin. The village was not quite as crowded as the last time I was here but there was still many adventurers, coming to and fro, all of which were unfamiliar. Some of the new faces I saw were wearing the emblem of the Circle of Friends. It seems that guild is alive and well. How nice that things are so stable around here! I remember applying for membership myself many many moons ago (I was ultimately rejected). Anyhow, I spent the whole day in town making maces and selling them to the weapons shop owner. It was quite grueling work, as it always is, but I kept company with a fellow blacksmith by the name of Patarius who was making ingots to use for traps (he was a rogue), so things went by rather quickly. At one point the shop owner told me he was overstocked with maces and refused to buy the batch I had just made. Not having any space to store them at the bank, I hid them in a corner of the shop, hoping no one would notice, so that I could conjure them up when he was willing to buy more. In the mean time, I figured I would build more maces. In retrospect, this was a terrible idea. Who was I to think that I could hide weapons inside the weapons shop from the owners? They know every nook and cranny of that small shop and probably clean the place on a regular basis. By the time, the owner was willing to buy more maces, most of the ones I hid had disappeared!! Gah! I should have known by the smirk he gave me every time I walked into the store! I was conned! He let me believe I was being clever, hiding maces in his store so that I could conveniently sell them to him later, all the while, taking those "hidden" maces for himself! Still, I don't have too much to complain about. He has been a steady source of income for me from the very beginning of my adventures in Oberin, almost always willing to buy maces from me when they are almost surely not a top-selling item. And the money I lost from losing those maces can easily be made up for through other means. Well, that's it for today! Until next time, diary! |

Year 437 Dancing Moon Day 50
Dear Diary,
Today I finished up using all of the ingots I had made recently. Thank the gods! I was getting tired of making maces!! This time, when the shop-keeper refused to buy maces from me, I hid the in a different location, but still inside his shop!! Hah! He apparently had no idea as I found my stash untouched once the shopkeeper started buying maces again. I win this time, shopkeeper!! Anyhow, I still a lot of left over boards, and I'll need to get rid of them somehow. I think I will use them to make shafts. I have recently been growing more and more confident in my woodcrafting skills and think I can now manage making those on my own. Feathers are so easy come by in the forest so I might as well build my own arrows rather than buy them If I can.
Anyhow, while Lerillin was bustling when I first returned from Andris. it has quieted down quite a bit since. I did meet a couple adventurers at the bank though. They told me that a spider queen was spotted near Mirith. I don't get any details but it sounded quite exciting!! I proclaimed my intentions to leave for Mirith and a druid by the name of Sam decided to join me. On our way out of town, we ran into a ranger friend of Sam named Beyoglu (I think, unfortunately, I've already forgotten). Apparently, the two of them are a kind of two-man minstrel show. I got a taste of their act and they seem really entertaining! Sam was saying that the Lerillin audience has soured on him recently though. Maybe that's why he as eager to leave for Mirith? In any case, Bey decided to join us on the walk to Mirith.
It has been quite a while since I walked from Lerillin to Mirith. I forgot how long it took! How naÔve of me! I honestly thought we would encounter no monsters on the way! Luckily for me these two entertainers were travelling with me. We encountered a giant at one point and I honestly thought we must be close to Mirith, but in fact, we hadn't even crossed the bridge yet! In the actual Mirith continent, we encountered the usual forest monsters but also a gang of undead as well. Bone Mage! Not having gone hunting in a while, I was struggling to pull of my spells for most of the journey and completely panicked when I saw the bone mage. Especially, when Sam was killed after being swarmed by summoned skeletons! I ran away. I managed to lure away one of the skeletons with me and managed to kill it but otherwise I was completely useless. When I returned to the scene of the battle, Bey was furiously defending Sam's body from the skeletons. But the Bone mage was dead! Feeling more confident, I assisted the apparently very strong ranger by raining lightning bolts on the remaining skeletons. While Sam's ghost went to Mirith to get a new body, I asked Bey how he managed to kill a bone mage all by himself. He humbly replied that he just got lucky, managing three shots into the mage's skull before it pulled of anything lethal. What a marksman!!
After Sam came back, we continued our journey west to Mirith. We encountered giants and tolls and such but nothing as scary as a bone mage. I did forget how quick the trolls were though. I did quite a lot of running around in those battles. By the time I reached Mirith, I was completely exhausted. So instead of asking around about what people knew about this so-called spider queen (Mirith bank was bustling with adventurers!), I bid everyone goodbye and retired to my place in Mirith. Perhaps when I write next time, I will no more about what has been happening around Mirith. But until then, so long, diary!! |

Year 437 Dancing Moon Day 138
Dear Diary,
Today is my first active day In Mirith In a very long time. The bank was bustling with activity and many adventurers had been mingling on its steps. I asked for the latest news on what was going in the world, and apparently, not so long ago, Lerillin was attacked by Brigands! This by itself wouldn't be too newsworthy but apparently, Luskin was killed in the attack! How Tragic. Luskin was one of the first people I met when I first decided to make my way in the world as a wizard. He taught me a great deal when I was first starting out. And, of course, I loved the joy in his face when I gave him candy. Is that creepy? It sounds kind of creepy as I read it? Anyway, I'll still miss giving candy to Luskin, and who knows what I'll do when I run out of my ash. I was counting on Luskin to supply me in exchange for spider fangs. I heard there is a man in Andris that provides similar services so I suppose I'll have to go there now. In any case, R.I.P Lusky, you will be greatly missed.
I asked if anyone would be interested in hunting and fortunately a ranger with great experience named Barabus decided to join me. We left through the west gate with the intent of hunting bracken, but most of the time we found hill giants instead. As always, they were tough creatures to kill but the combination of Barabus's arrows and my poison spells eventually got to them. They did occasionally get a hit in though when I couldn't run away quickly enough and those hits hurt a lot. We also encountered a bone mange and gang of summoned skeletons. That was very scary as there were only the two of us around neither of us were clerics. Luckily, the bone mage seemed focused on Barabus most of the battle. I landed a couple drain mana spells from afar which got the mage's attention. I then ran as fast as I could away from that forsaken pink skeleton. When I came back, the battle was over as Barabus had successfully killed it. Hopefully my mana-draining and diversion were of at least a little bit of use.
So we continued our way around the forest fighting bracken and giants. At one point, we encountered two brackens at once. Before I could get my robe of resistance on, I was dealt two or three lightning bolts simultaneously and was near death. If I hadn't been training my resistance to magical attacks in Andris, I surely would have died. Anyway, I was able to escape and drink enough potions to survive, but only by the skin of my teeth! I had forgotten how dangerous the forests surrounding Mirith could be.
When Barabus had almost run out of healing potions, we decided to call it a day and went back to Mirith where the bank was still bustling with activity. How nice it is to be in a city thatís active. We split the loot (we made quite a killing) and bid Barabus adieu. He is quite an accomplished ranger, managing to conquer the dangers of the Mirithian forest with wit and dexterity with only an inexperienced wizard to accompany him. Indeed, I would call him one of the Masters of the ranger class. Perhaps I will get an opportunity to hunt with him again some day. But who knows what adventure I'll have next? Until then, diary! |

Year 437 Dancing Moon Day 207
Dear Diary,
Today, the Mirith bank was once again bustling with activity. Adventurers were coming to and fro, dropping off their loot or picking up goods they had stored at the bank. As ever, I had no space left to store my collectibles at the bank so I first set out to enchant the crystals I had gotten from my previous expedition to sell and take up less space. After I was finished with that, I asked if any of my fellow adventurers were interested in a hunt. It turned out that a dragon hunt was being organized at the ice dungeon and I was invited to tag along. I had heard many stories of people hunting in the ice dungeon, and being a such a green wizard, I wasn't too sure if I was ready to participate in a dragon hunt. The ice dungeon, after all, is where the the Ancient Ice Dragon lived, and was the source of the war with the dragons and lizard men many many moons ago.
Still, the proposition was too enticed to resist so I decided to joint them. So the ranger Eurchara, the rogue Delimew, and later the cleric Corinne, set off the ice dungeon from Mirith. I prayed the gods would protect me in this adventure that I was undoubtedly unprepared for. And in an ironic way, they did. I the hustle and bustle of getting ready for the hunt, I had somehow forgot to pack my raft! With the entrance to the dungeon in some remote island, I had to say goodbye to the crew when I realized my mistake. Ironically, we had been traveling along the coast for the entire journey but I did think about my raft until everybody else was on their rafts and there was no land left to walk on. The group was very gracious tough and didn't tease me at all for my silly mistake. I said my good bye and headed back to town, picking up reagents along the way and also fighting a bracken. I decided to test how much my resistance to magical attacks had improved by trying to fight the bracken without my robe of resistance on and while I survived, I still need to improve in that area. One bolt would almost kill me, and if I accidently run into two bracken and they both hit me, I would surely die. I think it would be wise to continue donning the robe of resistance at any hint of brackens in the future.
When I arrived in Mirith, I found the bank deserted. My attempted visit to the ice dungeon got me thinking about the lizard men that assisted the dragons in the war so many moons ago. I remember Welif was completely overrun by these creepy but captivating creatures. I realized I knew very little about them and in fact never visited their island home. So I decided I would do just that, visit the lizard island, just as they had "visited" Welif so long ago. I had read on a map that the tunnel leading to the island existed and that the entrance was in the rock maze. I went to the rock maze but, as usual, the place was overrun by hill giants. I patiently fought them one by one, luring them out of the cave and have them chase me as I slowly poisoned them to death. It was very exhausting and time consuming. Because I was constantly running away from them, I lost sight of a couple of giants that had abandoned chase. I looked for them or their bodies but never found them. How frustrating it is to hunt hill giants alone!! And even after I had lured away maybe four or five of them, every time I went back to the rock maze there would be another two or three in the same spot. Where do these guys come from? Eventually, I gave up and returned to Mirith. It was good that I had called it a day as not long after, my chronic problem with stomach cramps returned and I was disabled for the day. Perhaps, the tunnel is not the best way to travel to this island. Maybe I shall try using my raft to travel across the ocean next time, assuming I don't forget to bring it. |
