A report is left with the guards in Mirith and Marali
Year 437, 193rd day of the Harvest Moon
This bad business with the Spider Queen once again sees most of the Marali Vanguard assisting our friends in Mirith. Armsman Hideaki and I wondered how the Queen got from the spider cave to the crypt, so we searched for a hidden tunnel between the two. All seemed normal, and we decided to thin out the local Hill Giant population.
Just then word reached us that a merchant had reported brigands in the rock maze, and since we were there already we went to investigate cautiously. Messengers had been sent to all Oberin, but only Armsman Nial, Patarius, Serancha, Hisashi and Tallon arrived. In vain we waited for more help. We sent out our own messages, and Jade arrived. In the north east of the rock maze there were indeed brigands, but also bone mages, gapers, pixies, rust beasts, bracken, lizard men, zombies and the normally resident population of hill giants. We eventually managed to clear them out, and found a set of orders telling the brigands to get the loot down the tunnel to lizard island.
Little did we know we were walking into a deadly trap. The same collection of evil was present inside the tunnel. We advanced about half way, and once most of the party had been killed, we suddenly found ourselves faced with a company of privateers as well. Hopelessly outmatched, in desperation the ghosts of the fallen tried to protect the few surviving adventurers, but to no avail. We were forced to flee, Jade and I escaped by some miracle and went to gather a party that could avenge our fallen comrades.
A large party eventually formed and we resurrected the fallen, then ground our way through the packed tunnel. Borti II, Galena, Cara, Rygarth, Larzz, Kookai, Arkore, Krem, Euchra, Lou Bene and Laricen joined us, only to find that the brigands had fled at the end of the tunnel with their ill-gotten gains.
