Now begins the tale of how the great war of brigands and spiders versus human warriors of good. I shall refer to it as the Brigarachnid Battle.
I woke up and went to the bank. We chatted for a while. Then, I sensed it. The queen's power was growing. I knew we were bound for trouble.
(Ivitus): The spiders will invade
(Ivitus): There is no stopping them
(Dessa Fey): where?
(Ivitus): their number will grow
(Ivitus): Not even I know that
(Dessa Fey): sounds threatening
(Ivitus): You and I both know the powers of a druid are limited
(Ivitus): I can sense it
(Ivitus): The queen is laying eggs
(Ivitus): Soon, they will hatch
(Ivitus): into her army
(Ivitus): she will intend to take the world
(Ivitus): We must not let this happen
(Dessa Fey): of course
(Ivitus): however, I am not a fortuneteller
(Ivitus): For all we know, she may even be allying with dragons

After this conversation, I and Dessa took our Fire elementals and went hunting. There was a suprising amount of creatures in the forest, and we fought our way through this with slight difficulty. We were soon joined by Kenneth, who joined our party.

Soon after this encounter, we found a brakken. We tried to slay it, but in doing so, Flare the fire elemental perished. Also, Dessa Fey died.

Ken escorted Dessa to the temple and back, and I dutifuly watched her corpse. Soon, we were on our way again, but without my pet. Thankfully, Kenneth lured a lone harpie to me, and I tamed that and kept on going. Shortly after that, something strange happened. Kenneth ran and ran and ran, and I couldn't catch him.e was gone within minutes, and Dessa Fey was left behind. It was then that I noticed the abundance of creatures. I backtracked and intented to find Dessa. After a few minutes of wandering, I found her. We ran back to Lerilin to marhsal our resources. We were at the bank, depositing our loot, when Rolyat the druid came there.

Me, Rolyat and Beyoglu decided to go to the volcano, to get me and Rolyat new FEs. Nothing eventful happened on our way there, but whilst there, we saw Ferrun, out on an ash run. He assisted us in capturing pets, and pointed us towards Lerilin, as it was dangerous out. That was when it happened. The first sign of trouble.

We went on, and searched the shore from there up to the cemetery, with no sign of the brigands. We decided that we would have to make a party and search for them the right way. At the bank, we sent out pigeons with messages and orbed people to see how close they were. At the end of the gathering, we had a good-sized group. Me(Ivitus) the druid, Rolyat the druid, Sher the wizard, Rygarth the fighter, Gilden the warlord fighter, Beyoglu the ranger and Alexia the cleric. We set off, intending to bring the brigands to justice. Beyoglu, Rolyat and I took turns leading the group to the spot where the brigands were. We finally got there, and found no trace of them. We took a group opinon to go SW and try to find a shelter. It was discouraging. No brigand could be found. The group was going to give up, when suddenly, SW of Brigobaen, we found a group of privateers.

As you may notice, my theories were slightly scattered. After the privateers all died, we decided to slay Sea Serpents in the lake. Little did we know what was going on.
Some of the braver warriors took them down easily, their large scales being pierced by the sharp weapons. Suddenly, Alexia heard something that noone else did. Me and Sher followed her for a bit, and then were curious. How did she know? I asked her, but she was going NE. I followed, and she told me she heard a piercing scream coming from the distant NE. She moved there, while I followed behind and thought. A scream? Pain. Someone in trouble. NE? Distant? I realized with horror that Rygarth was right. It had been a distraction. The 2 brigands were sent as tricks, to make us explore. The privateers slowed us down. What was happening in Lerilin? Me and Alexia hurried NE. Sher had already gone back. She received a confirmation message from a friendly bird from kookai: Brigands were attacking Lerilin. People were killed. We hurried faster, and when I got there, I took out Incinerator and tried to burn my way through the brigands. Alexia was a welcome sight among the tired defenders of Lerilin, whom included Neblin, Dessa Fey and many others. We worked together, but it wasn't quite enough. Alas, one found my weak spot, and I tumbled, dead. Neblin hastily instructed me to go to the temple, and hid on my body. As I went to the temple, my face smiled. The group was here. I hastily told them about the problem, and joined into the fray once more. After I ressed and got my body back, I quickly went to the stable and claimed my giant spider. With the assist from all the players in Lerilin at that time, and many others who came, the brigands were driven out. We all sighed in relief. Lerilin was saved. But at a price. Luskin the greeter was cruelly slain, as well as Harvey Jr. the bank guard and the two W entrance guards. Our respite did not last long. Kookai brought a report that the ant cave was full of spiders. This did not lift our spirits. We knew the queen was there.
When we entered the cave, it was covered with cobwebs and swarming with spiders. we worked methodically and rythmically till they died. Then, we saw her. She was powerful. She had escorts. We tried to kill her. Some died once. Some didn't die. Others, like I, died more. My first death was due to a foolish teleportation. I was under the opinion that I could keep the queen in that area. 4 of her minions disposed of me. My next death was due to the queen herself attacking me. After the initial chaos, we slowly pushed the queen back. We could not kill her. She was too strong. We fought our way out to the rat cave area. It ocurrs to me now that there should have been 2 groups, one on each side. But we had been blind. The queen escaped. We shall likely see her again. We fought the other spiders, the lone stragglers. They proved to be no challenge.
We then headed back to Lerilin. The loot was split, and the tale retold.
It is unknown exactly why the brigands were working together with the queen. Some say that the brigands were trying to slay the queen. This is highly doubtful, as they attacked Lerilin instead of the ant cave. They were most likely working together to conquer the heroes. A few days ago, a brigand mage was seen in a place I forget. She kept mentioning the spider queen, and that they were finding locations for her eggs. When the brigand mage was brought down, the eggs were soon found. Unfortunately for the warriors who were there, they had hatched. It seems most probable that the brigands and the spiders are working together.
Beware the queen. She is still at large. |
