After 17 years on Macs I have ordered a gaming PC... Last Apple WWCD and "new Mac Pro" and it's raised price done it for me. So I'm keeping Macbook Pro for work and I have bought HP Pavilion Elite HPE-h9-1100ec Phoenix with this config:
Intel Core i7 3770K 3,5 GHz (Ivy Bridge)
8 MB L3 Cache
4 cores, 8 threads
Intel Turbo Boost 2 3,9 GHz
Max TDP: 77 W
Intel Z75
Memory:
16 (4x4) GB DDR3
Graphic card:
AMD Radeon HD7950 with 3 GB GDDR5
Hard drive:
2000 GB
7200 RPM
SATA III
Optical drive:
Blu-ray
Multimedia:
High Definition Audio 7.1
Beats Audio
Communication:
Ethernet LAN 10/100/1000 Mbps
WiFi 802.11b/g/n
Additional slots:
3x PCI Express 1x
1x PCI Express 16x
1x MiniCard
External units position:
2x 5,25" external
3x 3,5" internal
Ports:
2x DVI
1x mini HDMI
2x USB 3.0
8x USB 2.0
2x analog sound input
4x analog sound output
1x RJ-45
1x digital sound port
1x Memory card reader 15v1
Power source:
600 W PFC
What a beast for half the price of Mac Pro. Still I feel sad! And I blame Apple for failing me with decent upgrade of Mac Pro and it's raised price. I would buy it otherwise.
So now I'm a TRAITOR. |

You do know that the macbook pros that don't have a retina display remained at the same price and have all the cool goodies when it comes to 1600 mhz ram etc and the better graphics card?
Also, that's a stationary computer, not a laptop |

| Slap an apple sticker on the case and have it dual-boot with osx and you'll be a happy hackintosh camper |

Read again Shogy.
I wanted to buy Mac Pro. I'm tired of buying maxed out MacBook Pro every two years at max just to be able to play new titles on min/medium settings. It's costly and not effective.
So I was waiting for Mac Pro update and they just did a very minor one and they raised the price.... Current Mac Pro seems to be largely overpriced and yet the cheapest one still starts with 6 GB memory and 3 years old mid range graphic card. :-/

That's interesting thought. Hackintosh sounds appealing. Will check webs for more info. |

My bad davon, yeah, the mac pro isn't price worthy at the moment.
If you want a high end computer from apple the macbook pro retina is your best bet at the moment. |

Well sitting behind my new HP right now... Trying to get used to the Windows. It took me 45 mins to give up on the idea of formatting external USB HDD from OS X format to NTFS. After that switched to Macbook and formatted it there in Disc Utility in few secs (DOS FAT) and then it was possible to reformat in Win to NTFS.
At least the games I tested yet all run on everything max on my new 24¥¥ iiyama LCD. Just awesome. |

You should get an SSD (even if it's just a small one to boot the system off) - I can't begin to tell you how awesome they are, blows those old spinning disks out of the water |

I was thinking about it but games (and WoW especially) tend to write on HDD a lot and I don't know how Windows handle SSD with OS + HDD.
Where would cache files be written. How would you move all other files but system (applications for example) on secondary HDD?
Would hate to get SSD and see it burn in a year because all that read/writing of cache files.
______
Either way happy so far... Actually very happy. Games on ultra are sooo nice. And till now I have not known what it means to have World of Warcraft without any hardware lag. @.@

Dude....
Nice specs. Got 3 monitors?
I am afraid I did the same as davon, however he has a better processor then me. (I only have an i5). But its pretty much the same except to go along with my harddrive i have an 80GB SSD for my operating system. (It's so fast... omg nerdgasm)
But I still have my mac laptop! However, I will probably be on it less... This computer is just too godly to pass up. And 3 24" LED monitors.... *drools*
(As for the convo about the SSD. I put all of my games and applications on my secondary harddrive. All I have on the SSD is my operating system and Visual Studios 2010 for programming purposes. I don't believe it will burn out quickly if all it has running on it is the operating system.)
Edit: I also built mine. |

I haven't got to it yet, and I probably won't. Doesn't seems to be worth the effort. Windows somehow work, at least for my purpose... I miss some applications like iPhoto (Windows Live Gallery or Picasa are 1/5 stars for trying), Mail (I'm rather using iCloud on web - won't bother looking for some free Win Mail soft), Time Machine (daaaamn Windows Backup is so sloooooow)... It's not as polished as OS X. True enough.
And I don't understand some things (yesterday Guild Wars 2 were kinda slow first 20 minutes, after 20 minutes they were totally smooth - and it did not matter if I had settings on low or max - I have no idea what was computer doing those first 20 minutes, taking a coffee break most likely). |
