Poisonous arrows have been suggest loads of times and nothing has happened, indicating that won't happen so, I'm going to suggest something else.
1) Arrows with star shaped tips (Star Arrow?)
Damage: Same as a normal Arrow
Special: Creatures that are continuously hit with these arrows don't regain hp. A star shaped wound won't heal on it's own, which is why these types of arrows were used irl. Alternatively, gives the creature "weakness".
2) Silver Arrow
Damage: good against undead
3) Steel tipped arrows / bronze tipped arrows / iron tipped arrows/ etc
Like normal arrows, but with different amounts of base damage, different costs. |

| How about an explosive tipped arrow, that could do additional damage against golems and rust beasts? It'd be an arrow with a bit of explosive dust on the end. |

| What about burning arrows? Works a bit like sting from a rogue in that it slowly erodes the target's health. Could be a good visual effect also. |

| If we're thinking about making use of less-used items, how about a Rust Arrow? It would require a Rust Gland of course. That item has no use as it stands. The arrow itself would damage and eventually destroy the armor of foes that wear chain or plate armor. And if that's too hard to code, it could just diminish the armor rating of said foes. Also, because of the rarity of both Rust Glands and metal-wearing enemies, the arrows could also have a very slight increase in damage. These arrows wouldn't be abused, because it takes a good deal of work to get any considerable supply of Rust Glands. In reality, these arrows would likely only be used in RTQs or other equally pressing situations. |

I like this idea. The GM Short and Long Bows do little, if any, damage to high level creatures, unless one uses 'Aimed Shot'. If using 'Aimed Shot', one can mange 2 or 3 shots before stamina runs out, which then requires the annoying wait for it to recharge without having the ability to keep shooting arrows.
Making arrows that allowed a ranger to inflict damage without having the creature regain its health so quickly that it makes shooting arrows pointless ( other than to level skill) would be a great addition.
If the arrows were not as easy to craft as regular ones, it would prevent rangers from spamming its use, forcing them to be more selective as to when to use. One ingot required for 5 arrows.

It is damn near impossible to level archery (when I was playing it was going to take 5+ years to level archery skill again) after you reach a certain level given the current leveling system (unless it has changed recently). It would be great to have the bow be of use against higher level creatures (other than resorting to Aimed Shot which does little level the skill), so to allow rangers to use bow and earn successes in process. |

I also like this idea. After forging the steel tip arrow or star shaped arrow maybe have tinkering as the skill needed to attach the arrow head to the shaft?
I really like the explosive tipped arrow idea to. |

I think a better idea than other varieties of arrows would be to integrate one or two more steps in the ordinary arrow making process itself.
One idea would be to include being able to "cook" Shafts in a fire one builds with the Bundle of Kindling.
In real arrow making (I personally have experience doing this), I go strip the limbs and then the bark off each shaft, and then "cook" or roast each shaft over a fire, so the wood actually bends without breaking. And the fire actually refines the shaft so it straightens the shaft out for more efficient flight.
You can add it to Cooking, because you really do cook it to refine it. |
