[This RTQ report is not wholly complete. I missed the beginning of it as I was in Mirith at the bank.]
To Captain Fang of the Marali Vanguard:
There has been so much death lately, it is hard to know where to begin. I was in Mirith talking with a few others at the bank, when we saw Zara wander past us. She was damaged and bleeding and wearing a gray robe. She managed to gasp out something horrible was happening in the cemetery. Everyone rushed to grab their arms and gear and we followed her blood trail to the cemetery.
There were clusters of people fighting in tiny isolated groups along the woods and road to the cemetery. I was overwhelmed by the utter chaos of the scene, and the only fighter I could see was Razan. (Thank god others joined us later!)
We fought our way into the gates. Occasionally a wizard called The Necromancer would run past, throw down vast fields of poison or paralytic agents and run cackling away. At first I was the sole cleric, and I had to make some harsh decisions about whom to heal: Razan of course, and the main damage dealers. The others I healed as I could but I did not have enough mana to keep everyone alive with all of the poisonings.
Then Tertinus showed up! Thank the gods another cleric! With two of us we had a chance to clear curses and poisonings as well as keeping Razan alive so he could control the battlefield. And when Alexia appeared I almost did a happy dance! Three clerics!!!! Once we had enough healers the tides of the battle turned. The younger warriors and rangers were no longer dying.
After what seemed like hours, Razan and the others finally held the Necromancer at bay and cornered him near the eastern most crypt. The Rangers showered him with arrows whilst the Wizard tore through his defenses, pelting him with lightening bolts and magic arrows.
It was an exhausting fight. I am sorry I cannot tell you how this all began. I have attached drawings of the battle for your edification. And here is a list of the valiant, I cannot place everything in the proper order as I came late to the fray.
With warmest regards,
Borti II

I crave forgiveness if I have omitted your name.
PS. I do not know if the Necromancer is affiliated with The Black Hand or not. It seems to me every foul deed is laid at their door. I hesitate to do so. There are many evils and perils in the world, and not all evil acts are authored by The Black Hand. I think that knee-jerk assumption, however deserved, could dangerously blind all of us to a new power, a new evil. |
