Harvest moon has always made me a bit tired. Tired is not exactly the wordÖ it rather some sort of lethargy, that makes me stay at the bank rather than seeking adventures, looking at the others passing by to deposit the piles of logs and ferrite they have been collecting. Sometimes one sees fishermen too, showing off the freshest sea bass they just caught, or complaining about the decaying quality of the baits sold at the shop.
It should not strike anyone as unusual, then, that I was half asleep when this one Jofrey appeared. He looked tired and, with only one eye open and my ears still numb, I tried to pay attention to his story. Something about having been attacked by brigands near Brigobaen. Making an effort to listen better, I understood, with the help of Borti's patient repetitions, that he had lost a journal as well.
"Ah, he needs us to find the brigands and recover it," I though, since it is not unusual either to see travellers in trouble seeking help in town. Alas, the brigands did not have the journal either ó the man had came across a hell hound in his flight, and the beast had torn the book to shreds. He was too scared to go back, we could see. How did he think it was still possible to savage the pages, I don't know. It is true that hell hounds do not keep libraries nor are famous for their reading habits. A collection of papers, though, must not be the tastiest foodÖ
The few of us at the bank agreed to help. Borti, Ferrun, Takeshi, Beyoglu, and myself headed to Brigobaen, leaving the poor man recovering at the Inn. Running into brigands near such an important temple is not for everyone. He must have been really scared!
It took us a while to find anything. We did encounter the gang, after a long search around the area, following tracks that were not very deeply stamped on the ground. Eventually, our rangers located the brigands, who kindly offered us a magic short bow, a few very welcome dragon teeth and, of course, their heads. The headsÖ I will never understand this habit of decapitating the enemyÖ it makes savage little beasts out of us, but I guess it started for some hygienic purpose or another.
Not very far away, we found the hell hound. We could have spared it, really, if it hadn't attacked us. The journal was right next to him, with several torn pages all around, but it did not looked as if it had swollen anythingÖ Alas, the little savage beasts in us killed the puppy (and several others of its family, for the sake of hygiene, I assume). In our bloody frenzy, it took us a bit to focus on higher things, such as the ripped pages. However, after a while, we managed to put together the remaining papers inside the journal, without any specific order, since we had no means to sow it back anyway.
Back to Lerilin, we met Jofrey at the inn. He seemed well rested, and I've noticed that his jester hat had an amazing cut and colour. His mum had made it for him, he told me, as he rewarded our little expedition with a bunch of class tokens.
It was, after all, a pleasant morning. I am just surprised we were polite enough not to peek the content of the journal. Maybe he had some wonderful recipe for cake inside! We will never knowÖ
