Day 65 of the Dancing Moon, year 438
As Llino the cleric and the Ranger Clefis were chatting at the Lerilin bank, Tanaka approached them with concerns about his son, Yrin, and another boy named Timmy. He'd heard something about a little cave, and the two boys were missing.
Llino thought immediately of the ant cave, and he and Clefis set off in that direction. Along the way they met Nirvash, another Ranger, who decided to join the small search party.
Inside the cave they were confused by tracks that seemed to go every direction, but after a bit of searching around they found Timmy alone near the chest SW of the entrance.
In the meantime, Heike the Druid approached her guild hall and was informed by one of the guards that a boy was missing and a party had gone to the ant cave in search of him. She promptly rousted her black bear, Shaman, out of the stable and headed for the ant cave.
Once inside, she saw Nirvash to the SW and headed straight for him instead of trying to follow the footprints, joining the others not long after they found Timmy.
Timmy was frightened and said that his friend Yrin had gone looking for the Queen's treasure, to which both Heike and Llino replied "Oh no!". The group escorted Timmy safely out of the cave and then went back to find Yrin.
Luckily Llino knew his way around the cave and led the small party straight to the Queen's chamber. After killing several warrior ants and some forager and worker ants, with Llino keeping the brave young rangers alive with his healing powers, the party found Yrin, unharmed, in the NW corner of the cave behind a shelter.
At first Yrin was more dismayed than relieved when Shaman destroyed the shelter, stating that it was the only thing keeping the ants off him! However, after his rescuers assured him that the ants were dead (at least temporarily), he followed them out willingly enough.
The party hastened back to the cave entrance and outside, where Yrin asked them to accompany him to his Dad's shop. We found Tanaka still at the bank and very glad to see his son safe. He told us that Timmy had also made it back safely and been sent on home, and then Tanaka rewarded the rescue party with roses in their choice of color from his wife's garden in spite of their protests that seeing the boys safe was reward enough.
The Queen ant had her usual loot (gold, ruby, diamond, etc.) and the shelter contained some chocolate, food, and unusual crystals.
Heike the Druid reporting.
(PS Not sure who to thank, but that was great. Way more fun and satisfying than just killing stuff.) |
